There were a few surprises Saturday in the 20th Annual Citizens National Bank/Adena Summer Volleyball Challenge, which saw Shekinah Christian take the championship with a 25-11/25-12 win over tourney host- Adena.

One of the surprises might have been that the Warriors were in the Gold Championship round to begin with. After finishing second and losing two sets to Alexander in pool play, #4 seed Adena then upset the #3 seed Spartans 25-17, 17-25, 15-6, then upset #1 seed and defending tourney champ- Tuscarawas Central Catholic 25-21, 15-25, 15-11. Those were the only set losses for TCC the entire day.
#2 seed Shekinah Christian beat #5 seed Bishop Ready two-sets-to-one in their Gold Semifinal, then hammered Adena in the finals.

#8 seed Eastern Pike topped #7 seed Harvest Prep in the Silver Tourney Finals, after the Eagles had advanced with earlier wins over #9 seed Eastern Meigs and #6 seed Marion Pleasant.

In the Bronze Tournament, #12 seed Chillicothe sailed through to the title, beating #15th seed Meigs and then #14 Unioto in the finals. The Shermans had advanced to the finals with wins over #13 North Adams and #11 Huntington.
